Who Are We?
We are neighbors and friends who either live in St. Charles Township or at the very least visit and enjoy some of the Township's benefits - its rural feel, its wonderful preserves and open spaces, its bike trails, and its many attractions.
Why have we formed this Coalition?
It has been too easy for too long to enjoy the Township's tranquil lifestyle while NOT paying attention to what's going on in the Township. For example, we recently (Feb 2026) learned that a proposed senior care living development called Cedarhurst has been proposed to be built just west of Peck Road along Dean Street. While we agree there is the need for more senior care housing in our area, and that the landowner certainly has the right to sell the property, we have concerns:
- We aren't certain this particular location is “best” for this development and there are questions about potential traffic, water, wildlife, and other impacts - we want to make sure appropriate studies and assessments are funded, executed, and available for public comment
- This particular proposal would result in the City of St. Charles annexing the property away from the township - we didn't realize that annexation could happen so easily
So a few of us who live on Babson Lane decided to form this Coalition in order to:
- Learn - identify and attend important and relevant city and township meetings and review their websites, to learn about proposed projects and other actions taking place in the township
- Inform - help pass the word to our neighbors and friends - using this website and other means to keep everyone in the loop
- Collaborate - partner. Rather than coming across simply as Not In My Back Yard people, we want to be professional, courteous, and work with our government decision makers to share our concerns, understand their approval processes, review what studies are conducted to assess potential impacts, and try to influence outcomes
- Act - increase our outreach, ask for feedback, represent our neighbors, attend meetings, ensure assessment studies are being funded and conducted, bridge the gap between our neighbors and they who plan and approve things
